Position Summary

Will develop, forecast, implement, and manage complex budget and accounting controls for the Office of the Hannah Chair with a $1.3 million grant over five years; serves as liaison between PI, sponsor/funding source, central administration (Office of Sponsored Programs/Contract and Grant Administration, MSU Business Connect, MSU technologies, Office of Regulatory Affairs, etc.; includes database management and communication with a varied personnel group including regular and fixed term faculty, administrators, graduate assistants, and student staff; will monitor, make adjustments, and take action on expenditures; will process HR and financial forms; provides regular budget and accounting reports to the Hannah Chair, College of Education Dean's office and funding agencies; will research, prepare, and verify the accuracy of financial statements and reports; prepares and reconciles records relating ledgers; assists in developing financial policies, accounting controls, and procedures; performs other administrative work within the office appropriate for the grade level.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Finance, or a research-related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research administration in one or more of the research process areas of pre- or post-award processes, such as regulatory administration; experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database software; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. The job also requires: completion of Essentials of Research Administration (MSU certificate) or equivalent within one year of hire.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrates a work orientation that includes problem solving, taking initiative, working as part of a team, and learning for continuous self-improvement; experience with budget forecasting, development, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring in an externally funded academic research unit; developing and managing contracts; experience in creation of databases and use of database software, including Microsoft Access; understanding of university business policies and procedures and audit controls; experience in Enterprise Business Systems; post award grant and contract monitoring experience; substantial experience with budget development and forecasting.
