Job description
We are seeking a motivated individual to contribute to the Immune Epitope Database (IEDB - and Cancer Epitope Database and Analysis Resource (CEDAR - two sibling bioinformatics resources that aid in the development of vaccines, immunotherapeutics, and diagnostics, and assists scientists to better understand immune mechanisms. The online databases contain data extracted by our team of curators from peer-reviewed journal articles. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on an NIH-funded program at one of the country's top immunological research institutes.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Run PubMed and Protein Data Bank queries to identify potentially curatable references. Run other specialized queries on an occasional basis.
- Upload retrieved reference information into the Curation Tracking System and the IEDB internal production system
- Maintain curation tracking daily
- Help coordinate curation workflow - internally and with external curators and reviewers
- Maintain curation electronic and physical archives
- Assist in the development of a text-mining tool for automated document classification
- Generate curation metrics and statistics weekly
- Generate annual citation listings
- Proofreading quarterly and annual IEDB progress reports
- Keep the Document Specialist Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) document up to date
- Works with IEDB staff to accomplish project goals
- Perform miscellaneous analyses as needed
This full-time position requires:
- proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access
- proven attention to detail
- the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals
- good communication skills
- well-developed critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
- a background in biology
Experience with PubMed is highly desirable and knowledge of immunology is a plus. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or related field, or comparable combination of education and professional experience.
