Job Description
The YMCA is looking for a Marketing & Communications Director who will oversee the creation and implementation of all marketing strategies for the Duneland Family YMCA. This person is responsible for building and maintaining the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact through the development of effective, yet diverse marketing/communications strategies. This individual will work directly with program and executive leadership across the association.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field.
- Minimum 1 - 3 years’ experience with demonstrated success in a marketing or communications position.
- Prefer experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Direct experience working with social media, traditional and digital advertising, email marketing and website media.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading verbal, and presentation skills, with demonstrated ability in executive communications for internal and external audiences.
- Advanced skill level with Adobe Creative Suites, Canva, Publisher, Constant Contact, Hootsuite, SP PageBuilder, Joomla, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proven project management skills for special event planning.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required within 30 days of hire or present proof of certification.
- Skills in supervision, budget management and project management preferred.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
Essential Functions
1. Create, implement, and manage a comprehensive development, marketing, and communication strategy to advance the association’s core business, contributed and earned income revenue goals, while enhancing the YMCA’s brand and position within the marketplace.
2. Ensure all marketing strategies are consistent with the Y’s brand and voice.
3. Develop and oversee all marketing/communication materials including brochures, program guides, direct mail, advertising, press releases, social media, campaign literature and support material, annual reports, videos, website copy, photo stock, and digital marketing collateral.
4. Support a team approach to coordinated, creative and strategic communications that advance the organizational objectives that expand the Y’s visibility and mission to the community.
5. Manage and ensure accurate and daily distribution of content for social media channels and association websites.
6. Analyze on-going marketing methods to ensure efficiency.
7. Provide creative direction and support for all program staff.
8. Build relationships with local media outlets including print and electronic sources.
9. Build a culture of story telling among employees and volunteers that effectively supports and communicates the Y’s impact in our community.
10. In conjunction with the COO/CFO, develop an annual marketing budget and sales plan to support association needs.
11. Develop a library of association-based mission stories and photos that demonstrate the cause of the organization.
12. Demonstrate an ability to successfully plan, organize, implement, document, monitor projects, meet deadlines, and respond to changing priorities and circumstances.
13. Work and communicate with a diverse array of leaders from across the association and facilitate the collaboration of varying skill sets.
14. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
15. Identifies and builds relationships with internal and/or external partners or key stakeholders, such as service groups, community organizations or companies, to support programs or projects.
16. Makes presentations about the YMCA.
17. Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises assigned staff and volunteers. Provides development and leadership.
18. Provides and maintains related statistics and reports.
19. Educates staff, volunteers, and members about the charitable nature of the Y; leads assigned aspects of the fundraising campaign.
20. Oversee planning, execution, and evaluation of special events. Assist with securing sponsorships; booking venues, booking vendors, and coordinating event logistics.
