Job description
As part of the leadership team, the Fundraising Director assumes a crucial role in shaping the direction of our affordable housing and programming, by leading the organization’s fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and various Board members; this role primarily focuses on enhancing Habitat for Humanity’s fundraising capabilities. The objective is to secure resources for the construction, rehabilitation, and repair of affordable houses for qualified families.
Key responsibilities of the Fundraising Director encompass strategically fostering diverse connections within the community to attract a broad spectrum of supporters, including major donors. This involves engaging with individuals, businesses, faith and community organizations, as well as foundations. A pivotal aspect of this role is the adept implementation of fundraising strategies, aligning them with the resource development and capacity-building initiatives outlined in the strategic plan. The focus on cultivating relationships extends to various supporters, ensuring a comprehensive and effective approach to securing financial contributions for the organization’s endeavors.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as a catalyst for fundraising and cultivation of donors and partners through major and planned giving, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, special events, and community relations.
- Lead prospect research and donor stewardship, including but not limited to:
- Donor recruitment and retention—solicit new donors and steward them to make subsequent gifts; retain current donors and encourage increased gifts.
- Major donor cultivation—work with CEO, Outreach team, and board to cultivate and increase investment at the $5,000-$15,000+ levels; Develop, manage, and solicit an active portfolio of high-value donor prospects
- House sponsorships—identify and secure sponsors for individual houses as well as comprehensive initiatives.
- Foundation relations—oversee the grant writing efforts by initiating and writing proposals as well as working with the CEO, program staff, and outside consultants to identify grant opportunities.
- Corporate relations—work with the Outreach team to strengthen relations with corporate partners. Package opportunities for various event and house sponsorship levels.
- Annual campaigns—annual campaigns include direct mail, social media/email, third-party, and special campaigns, including Women Build.
- Develop and maintain a CRM Database— Bring up current CRM platform to full capacity and utilization.
REQUIREMENTS

- Excellent presentation skills, showcasing the ability to engage and communicate effectively.
- Successful track record in conceptualizing, writing, and editing grant proposals.
- Knowledge of major donors in the regional area and adept project management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and delegate effectively.
- Demonstrated understanding of complex demographics
- Strong financial literacy, including budgeting and forecasting expertise.
- Ability to anticipate trends in the competitive non-profit marketplace and plan accordingly.
- Superior communication skills across oral, written, proofreading, editing, and presentation.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, connecting effectively with broadly diverse audiences.
- Flexible availability, with occasional weekends or evenings required for the role.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, CFRE desired.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three to five years of experience in non-profit development with a demonstrated track record in implementing successful corporate, foundation, and individual giving campaigns.
- Experience with government funding.
- Experience with budget planning and long-range strategic planning.
- Experience with capital campaigns and major donors.
