Job description

1. Cares for, coordinates, and facilitates access to the collection.2. Discusses the condition and breadth of the collection with other Curators.3. Decides on the organization of the collection.4. Recommends acquisitions for the collection.5. Recommends objects to be conserved and conservation priorities.6. Supervises and administers the exhibitions of the collection.7. Initiates the scholarly cataloging of objects in the collection.8. Negotiates loans for objects.9. Assists in formulation of policy regarding the collection.10. Interprets the collection to assist scholars with research. Teaches and lectures in a specific subject area.11. Assists in writing of grant proposals.12. Supervises staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.13. Promotes knowledge of the collection through writing, teaching and exhibitions.14. May perform other duties as assigned.



Required Skill/ability 1: Independent and self-directed, with the ability to take initiative, anticipate actions needed, and to exercise discretion and independent judgment.



Required Skill/ability 2: Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. An effective collaborator both within the department and in the larger YUAG environments, with a positive attitude that supports the University's goalsĀ  in teaching, research, and advancement of knowledge.



Required Skill/ability 3: Ability to conduct original research, to write lucidly, and to communicate effectively among diverse audiences.



Preferred Education: Ph.D. degree in art history or related field and two years of museum experience, or the equivalent combination of experience. Demonstrated expertise in one aspect of the collection's holdings as well as an interest in the arts and cultures of the Indo-Pacific region. Experience with object maintenance, collections management and digitization.



Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day)

Demonstrated expertise in one aspect of the collection's holdings as well as an interest in the arts and cultures of the Indo-Pacific region. Experience with object maintenance, collections management and digitization.

Masters Degree in Art History and two years of curatorial experience or an equivalent education and experience.
