The Foundation works to expand access to care, accelerate health education, and eliminate healthcare inequalities so that everyone in the community has an opportunity to lead healthier and longer lives.
About The Position
The Community Relations Director serves in a key role for developing and implementing an overall community relations and development strategy including the development and administration of internal and external communication plans, programs, and initiatives in support of the Equality Health Foundation (EHF). This individual will be responsible, in part, to plan develop, implement, and analyze community relations campaigns, marketing efforts and related fundraising initiatives in support of and in concert with the mission of EHF and supported organizations. *Looking for candidates within the Dallas and Houston areas but open to other areas in TX*
Responsibilities:
- Build, develop and engage relationships with stakeholders of the community including but not limited to, potential donors, business leaders, policy makers, residents, and neighborhood groups, for example.
- Design collaborative community-driven strategies alongside key stakeholders, and steward charitable funding and resources to enhance the EHF strategic plan.
- Actively manage a portfolio of prospects and donors; meet regularly with donors and prospects to create and foster relationships.
- Organize community outreach programs and coordinate special events that will influence public opinion and support the mission and vision of Equality Health.
- Promote EHF through local activities such as chamber of commerce meetings, civic associations gatherings, health fairs, recreational or school events open to the public, local politicians and other community activities.
- Participate in the development of a comprehensive, annual development plan which responds to the defined funding needs of EHF and supported organizations.
- Participate with the EHF Board and community leaders in growing financial and public relations support.
- Respond to inquiries from community members and other interested parties; when needed, recruit a knowledgeable spokesperson or information source to assist.
- Manage EHF marketing, public relations and development budget; provide input and accurate pricing information for ads, directories and social media advertising, event costs, association memberships, and all marketing and fundraising related costs.
- Assist in building a diverse and inclusive Board that is representative of the community and highly engaged and willing to leverage and secure resources
- Facilitate the receipt of charitable gifts, their financial stewardship and the ultimate distribution of funds to ensure continuous support of EHF.
- Engage with and promote a positive, multicultural work environment that supports consistency throughout the EHF's strategy, operational methods, and data collection needs.
- Cultivate philanthropic relationships, engaged Board of Directors, and increased awareness of economic/social impact of EHF’s programs and initiatives.
- Assist with the development of grant proposals and case statements for donors, including research, writing, submission, and presentations.
- Travel throughout the state and out of state, up to 25%, via personal automobile; and occasional overnight stays
Required Knowledge, Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree Public Relations or Communications or a related field of study; or, an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Minimum seven (7) years of not-for-profit community relations, fundraising and/or program development experience in a related industry
- Proven experience in non-profit settings with responsibility for communications, community relations, marketing and branding, and/or fiscal management experience
- Successful record of managing multiple projects and high-profile initiatives with demonstrated ability to work independently in rapidly-changing environments
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- An inclusive leader with a highly collaborative team approach to work
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and web-based technologies
Highly Preferred Skills, Abilities & Qualifications:
- Certification as a Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred
- Experience in working with diverse and underserved populations with a strong understanding of multicultural issues and social determinants of health
- Proven track record of investor and donor stewardship
- Excellent coalition building skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders; a persuasive negotiator able to achieve consensus amongst differing opinions
- Outstanding presentation and communication skills and the experience and proclivity to be an outgoing spokesperson, relationship builder, and fundraiser
- Bilingual – able to read, write, and speak Spanish and English proficiently
