About the School of Integrative Plant Science

The CALS School of Integrative of Plant Science (SIPS) is composed of five sections: Horticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology, and Soil and Crop Sciences. Combined there are 100-plus faculty, 120 undergraduate students, 200-plus graduate students in five fields, 30-plus graduate students in the MPS program, and 600-plus other employees located in Ithaca, Geneva, and other locations across New York State. The school offers multidisciplinary undergraduate majors in Plant Sciences and Agricultural Sciences. In addition to these two programs, school faculty teach and advise in the Biology, Biology and Society, Global Development, and Viticulture and Enology majors.

The Opportunity

The Undergraduate Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in providing programming, advising, and curriculum support for the Plant Sciences major within the School of Integrative Plant Science (SIPS). This position collaborates closely with various stakeholders including the director of undergraduate studies (DUS), Associate Director of Teaching (ADOT), Student Services Lead (SSL), and the Plant Sciences Curriculum Committee (PSCC) to ensure the smooth operation of the program. The incumbent will manage administrative operations related to curriculum, undergraduate advising, course management, and development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operational Support: Ensure the smooth functioning of the undergraduate program, including timely decisions on major affiliation, student correspondence, accurate record-keeping, and coordination of academic committees and reviews. Process academic actions efficiently and accurately.
• Course Logistics: Coordinate, schedule, and organize logistics for school courses. Ensure seamless communication and coordination with instructors and relevant stakeholders.
• Data Management: Manage student and course data to ensure accuracy and accessibility. Oversee compliance with program requirements, including Plant Sciences major and the school's six minors.
• Student Advising: Provide one-on-one advising to students, addressing individual inquiries and offering guidance that supports student success. Make appropriate referrals to counseling services when necessary.
• Program Support: Co-teach PLSCI 1110 every fall with DUS co-instructor. Assist DUS with running the mentoring program for all new PS undergrads. Plan and attend Orientation and Commencement events for program.

This is a full-time, Contract College position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 3:2 campus-to-home hybrid work arrangement. This hybrid schedule is subject to change at any time. Typical work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Thursday and 8am-3:30pm on Fridays. There may be occasional weeknight or weekend hours to support department events.

What We Need

We are looking for a team member who is empathetic, student support driven, and collaborative. Additionally, you will:

• Hold an Associate's Degree and 4 to 6 years relevant experience or equivalent combination.
• Be proficient with business or technical programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Photoshop, Acrobat, and SmartSheets). Experience in advanced text-editing (Word, PDF) systems and advanced graphic software.
• Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Maintain professional atmosphere in busy office setting. Must take initiative, meet challenges with resourcefulness, have ability to work independently and must be comfortable with multitasking. Must be able to work well with a variety of diverse people, including but not limited to faculty, staff, and students.
• Utilize excellent organizational skills and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Have experience with proofreading and editing materials.
• Be very adaptable as the school structure and organization evolves.
• Have the flexibility to work on weekends and weeknights for required events (limited to a few times a year).
• Work well with others while creating a high-quality, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
• Demonstrate sound judgment, creativity, management, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work well within a team of professionals.

• B.S. or B.A. degree
• Knowledge of Cornell procedures and systems
• More than 4 years but less than 6 years of experience in student services
