The MGB Assistant CMIO will provide leadership for the implementation and optimization of clinical information systems to further MGB Medical Group (MGB MG) site and MGB strategy and to facilitate the delivery of high quality, safe, equitable, efficient care in an environment of exceptional patient and care team experience.

MGB Assistant Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) - to MGB Medical Group

This position will focus on improving care team experience with the EHR and associated clinical IT systems. The Assistant CMIO will be a leader and change agent, working closely with clinicians and operations from all specialties to understand their workflows and needs. The Assistant CMIO will also serve as a liaison to the MGB Digital teams as needed. The incumbent will work with the MGB eCare team on specific clinical system project execution, and the Digital training team to execute consistent enterprise-wide training and communication at their site. The Assistant CMIO will help lead the site Super User Program to obtain broad-based input into the design of clinical information systems and to share key communications with the clinical community. The Assistant CMIO will represent MGB MG site on a range of site and MGB committees, such as the eCare clinical informatics committee.

This teammate will also have an initial focus on identifying and implementing solutions to surfaced clinical and operational challenges. Overtime, the incumbent's focus will change depending on the needs of the organization and our clinicians. Upcoming projects will include the Epic 2023 upgrades and continued implementation of the paging/texting platform Voalte.

In the long-term, the incumbent will focus on becoming a strategic partner with MGB MG site leadership to inform, understand and promote Digital solutions to further the enterprise strategy and mission. They will identify, prioritize and support Digital solution ideation, development and implementation that aligns with MGB MG site and enterprise goals.

This teammate will be seen as a leader and content expert, such that end users will escalate digital concerns and new ideas through them. The Assistant CMIO will have responsibility to their site and also the MGB enterprise, considering priorities and impacts both locally and system-wide. S/he will work closely with site leadership, MGB Digital governance committees, and the MGB CMIO and other site CMIOs to prioritize initiatives. In order to advance eCare and other information technology adoption at their site in an efficient and effective manner, the incumbent will work directly with site clinical champions, nursing informatics leadership, super users, and clinical and administrative leaders.

May be assigned to cover a specific area of domain expertise, serving as the clinical digital lead for that area bridging between OCMO, OCOO and Digital as necessary. In this role, s/he will have responsibility for understanding the strategy and priorities of that clinical/operational domain, identifying opportunities for Digital solutions to support strategic goals, facilitating prioritization of any Digital work, and engaging in enterprise-wide implementation efforts. In this role, this teammate will maintain a strong connection with OCMO and/or OCOO as well as Digital.

This position will be 70% effort with the remainder of the incumbent's efforts directed to clinical work, teaching, and/or research.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Serves as a key clinical champion for all major information technology projects, such as eCare. Builds relationships with clinicians to gain support of information technology initiatives. Is highly responsive to users needs, including training and communication, to assure widespread acceptance and provider use of the clinical systems. Participate in and help lead as necessary the site clinician builder program.

2. Serves as a liaison to site and MGB eCare teams to ensure the clinical systems are designed to meet our clinicians' needs. Represent site on various hospital and enterprise committees.

3. Serves as a liaison to site training programs and trainees and their use of health information technology.


4. Design communication and training content in conjunction with the Solutions Delivery training and communication team and site communication teams to best update busy clinicians on important changes and enhancements with our clinical systems.

5. Maintains awareness of existing and emerging technology, regulatory, and market factors and assists in the development of the MGB clinical IT strategy.


6. Acts as an advocate for the protection of patient privacy and the security of protected health information.


7. Demonstrates excellent writing, editing and oral communications skills . Ensure presentations, written material and on-line content are grammatically correct, effective and appropriate.

8. Acts as a steward of resources : Attention is paid to platform/vendor rationalization as solutions to stated challenges are evaluated. Commits to outreach to other similar leaders across the industry to share challenges and solutions. Participation in national user groups to gain new knowledge and tools should be an ongoing priority.

9. Demonstrates excellent service quality : Provides high quality customer service in all activities. Recognizes eCare, IS, hospital operations, and clinical communities as equal and valued partners.

Qualifications

Qualifications

1. Active and current Massachusetts clinical license with board certification in his/her specialty or subspecialty. Maintains an active clinical practice within the MGB MG network of sites.

2. Advanced training or degree in medical informatics or board certification in clinical informatics is preferred, but not required.

3. Two or more years of healthcare leadership experience, preferably involving the deployment and optimization of clinical systems.

4. Excellent knowledge of clinical workflow


5. Demonstrated strong commitment to progress, customer service and teamwork.

Working Condition

• Standard office environment with regular travel to different MGB sites.

• Patient Care delivery areas as needed.

• 24x7 responsibilities requiring on call and evening, night, weekend hours as needed
