Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PMTelecommute eligible (work onsite as scheduled and/or as requested and telecommute as scheduled)

About the Position:

University Advancement builds and strengthens relationships with the communities we serve to encourage advocacy, investment and support of the University, its mission, goals, and programs to achieve student and alumni success. Strategic Communications and Brand Management plays an integral role in helping to shape and strengthen the institutions brand and advance in a wide range of institutional effectiveness. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Digital Designer (Graphic Designer III). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Digital Designer is responsible for the creation of visually appealing and user-friendly websites, email campaigns, and online digital assets. The primary focus is on effectively conveying University messages and brand identity while elevating user engagement. This position actively pursues design solutions that are compelling, supportive of the University's brand guidance, and provides for optimal user experience. In addition to designing, this position involves in-depth research to comprehend target audiences and user behavior. Implementing best practices in user experience (UX) design is a key aspect, aiming to enhance website usability and overall user satisfaction. Provides consultative support to the campus community on web development, technical issues, user interface design, and training. Responsibilities also encompass the development of responsive and accessible designs, collaborating with fellow designers, developers, and stakeholders to gather requirements, iterating on designs, and producing visually appealing and user-centric websites aligned with the intended goals. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field or equivalent technical experience and relevant coursework PLUS four years of related experience. Strong communication skills and the ability to use and maintain currency with applicable computer software packages and systems. Extensive knowledge of communications and graphic design theory. Advanced skills in graphic art, design, and illustration. Knowledge of production techniques and processes. A demonstrated understanding of marketing communications. Ability to proof and edit publications. Ability to develop and maintain relationships with relevant internal and external constituents and ability to build consensus between constituents. Experience writing press releases, news articles, or promotional materials. Advanced skills in complex computer graphics software and interactive technologies, including a thorough understanding of file formats and peripheral software (e.g., printing, scanning, film recording) and working knowledge of graphics delivery and implementation software. Thorough knowledge of applicable copyright laws and ATI compliance relative to the use of graphic and textual materials. Strong art direction, project planning, and project management skills. Ability to work in a variety of media formats such as digital photography, digital video, and website design (including a working knowledge of HTML and CSS). Extensive knowledge of printing and other vendor services to ensure the most effective use of resources. Experience working in a collaborative team environment with programmers, content creators, clients, and project managers. Ability to articulate technical issues and train campus communities on various digital projects. Has broad impact by providing overall artistic direction to integrate strategically the university’s graphic communication efforts. May be responsible for day-to-day graphic operations and for the execution and coordination of the most complex projects and assignments.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years of professional experience designing websites and other multimedia platforms for instructional, informational, promotional, or other stakeholder-engaged purposes. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience with HTML/HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript framework. Minimum of 2 years of experience with User Interface Design (UID) and/or User Experience Design (UED) and responsive web design. Minimum of 2 years of experience with producing email marketing, campaigns, and newsletters. Strong competency with graphic software such as Adobe CC.-Familiarity with Javascript, AJAX, XML/XSL, JSON, or .NET. Familiarity with a web content management system such as WordPress. Familiarity with a React JS, Gatsby JS, or SASS Understanding of WCAG 2.0 Compliance, Section 508, or CSU’s ATI Compliance.
