Job description

This Associate Formulation Scientist is responsible for formulating and supporting soft
gel product formulations from the prototype stage through the production stage.

• Develop new soft gel product formulations and reformulate existing products as
  directed.
• Prepare/compound fill material evaluation and gel mass color and compatibility
  trials.
• Perform lab scale feasibility and encapsulation machine performance trials.
  Working closely with production associates and management, perform pilot scale
  batches in production.
• Prepare and approve Master Batch Records (MBR’s) Master Change Requests
  (MCR’s) Formula A-Pages, and product cost approximations
  Prepare and maintain accurate technical data and required documentation
  related to laboratory trials and technical support activities.
• Provide technical support to Soft Gel Operations and monitor initial production
  patches of new product formulations.
• Perform/assist with special or non-routine project assignments.
  Some light lifting. Ability to stand for duration of laboratory bench experiments or
  manufacturing workstation tasks.
• Heavy walking at times.

• B.S. degree, preferably in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or food science.
• Experience in formulating nutritional products in soft gel dosage form.
• Exposure to equipment and techniques used in Soft Gel Operations.
• Ability to use the principles of general science, chemistry, and physics to produce
formulations that will run efficiently in manufacturing operations
• Familiarity with equipment and instruments used in the development,
manufacture, and physical testing of soft gel dosage-forms.
• Must be able to use mathematical skills to accurately calculate formula inputs as
well as to create cost approximations for finished products in bulk and/or
packaged forms.
• Must be computer literate and capable in technical data accumulation and
reporting.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to perform duties with little or no direct supervision.
• Must be capable of providing leadership, guidance, and direction for any directreport associates and be accomplished in operating and leading in a team-based
environment.
