Office of Minority Student Affairs

(MULTIPLE POSITIONS)

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking applications for multiple Student Success Advisors for the Advising and Mentoring Unit in the Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA). Founded in 1867, the University of Illinois is one of the nation's original 37 public land-grant institutions. The University of Illinois is home to approximately 56,000 students and 12,000 faculty and staff.

The Office of Minority Student Affairs (OMSA) provides leadership in developing, implementing, and delivering student support services to improve the retention, academic achievement, graduation, and success of undergraduates at Illinois, particularly, students who identify as first-generation, historically underrepresented, low-income, and/or educationally disadvantaged. OMSA promotes and develops educational opportunities and enrichment activities to help facilitate the educational and personal growth of student participants through organized activities and collaborative efforts with Student Affairs departments, the colleges and academic departments, and other campus and community partners. The OMSA is comprised of two administrative areas: The Academic Services Center (ASC) which includes Advising and Mentoring (A&M), First-Generation Student Initiatives (1GEN), and Tutoring and Academic Services (TAS); and TRIO, Administrative, Outreach, and Business Services (TAOBS). The OMSA's administers four TRIO programs which include two programs for undergraduates: TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO McNair Scholars Program, and two additional programs for pre-college populations: TRIO Upward Bound and TRIO Talent Search.

As a part of Student Success, Inclusion, and Belonging within Student Affairs, OMSA provides support for students to reach their personal, academic, and professional goals through curricular and co-curricular engagement opportunities. OMSA reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success, Inclusion, and Belonging (SSIB).

Job Summary
The Student Success Advisor is responsible for providing advising, mentoring and coaching to select freshmen and transfer students in the Advising and Mentoring unit of the OMSA, as well as providing supervision for a cadre of graduate staff. This position will work closely with academic units to investigate and troubleshoot barriers that prevent student success..

Appointment Information


These are 100% full-time Academic Professional positions, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start dates are as soon as possible after the interview, reference checks, and background check process. Target Salary is $58,000.
