Position Summary/Description:
The Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Labs position provides leadership and direction in the management of the Chemistry Department's undergraduate laboratories and will be responsible for the undergraduate laboratory program on a day-to-day and semester-to-semester basis.
The Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Labs works with faculty to review, assess, plan, develop, and structure the undergraduate chemistry laboratory curriculum in support of the educational mission of the Department. The Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Labs ensures comprehensive preparation for successful laboratory curriculum and classes such as preparing reagents and labs for experiments; implementing strategies for maintaining excellent safety standards, and assuring proper building services. The Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Labs also supervises, trains, develops and advises teaching assistants and undergraduate lab assistants. This position is responsible for laboratory courses as well as developing and implementing the required training program for Teaching Assistants in order to successfully lead undergraduate laboratory courses. This position does require supervision of afternoon and evening laboratory classes. This position will instruct undergraduate laboratory or undergraduate lecture courses, based on need. This will be accomplished as a secondary faculty appointment.Education and Experience:
A demonstrated ability to effectively relate to faculty members and technical staff; and excellence in organizational, time management, communication, and decision-making skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of three years of experience in chemistry lab management and/or teaching.
