Job description
The Staff Accountant supports the Firm-Wide Accounting Department. This position is located in our Houston office and assists the Controller and Accounting Manager with various accounting functions and special projects. This person reports to the Controller. Duties and Responsibilities Compile data and perform profitability analysis Participate in surveys, including the PWC survey Record journal entries and assist with month end close Assist Accounts Receivable when needed Approve client charge check requests, client charge reimbursements and trust check requests. Calculate use tax for various states and file returns Update GL spreadsheets for tax deductible items Send credit card statements to Managers and work with Accounts Payable on coding and processing Checking the Monthly Management Report Assist with special projects/duties as assigned by Controller and Accounting Manager Qualifications Minimum 5 years of accounting experience in a law firm or professional environment Adept at using spreadsheets and generating reports Experience with accounting software; Sure Point (Rippe Kingston) experience a plus A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Must be organized, have excellent work ethic, and have the ability to work in a team environment Strong written/verbal communication skills and ability to interact professionally with attorneys, staff & clients Effective time management with ability to multi-task and shift priorities successfully to meet deadlines Ability to work independently and under pressure Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe and a document management system (iManage preferred) Physical Requirements Sit, stand, walk, stoop, bend, write, type, lift boxes up to 20 pounds and use standard office equipment (phone, computer, copier, printer etc.) Prolonged periods sitting at desk Working on computer, including typing
