Essential Job Functions:
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Dean of Online and Graduate Studies to develop and implement a strategic vision for instructional design that aligns with the institution's educational goals and mission.
- Curriculum Enhancement: Work closely with faculty and academic departments to enhance curriculum design, ensuring alignment with best practices in instructional design, active learning, and educational technology.
- Faculty Development: Provide guidance and support to faculty in the development of effective, engaging, and learner-centered course materials, including online, hybrid, remote, and classroom modalities.
- Instructional Design Team Management: Supervise and mentor a team of instructional designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain quality assurance standards for course design and delivery, conducting regular reviews and assessments to ensure alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.
- Technology Integration: Stay current with emerging educational technologies and trends, advising on the selection and integration of appropriate tools and platforms to enhance teaching and learning.
- Professional Development: Facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty and staff related to instructional design, pedagogy, and the use of educational technology.
- Resource Allocation: Manage the budget and resources for the instructional design department, optimizing the allocation of funds and personnel to meet institutional objectives.
- Data Analysis: Utilize data and assessment results to make data-driven decisions for improving instructional effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with academic departments, IT, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of instructional design initiatives across the institution.
Essential Job Requirements:
Education:
- Master's or PhD in Instructional Design, Education Technology, or a related field.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in instructional design, curriculum development, and faculty development in higher education. Three to five years is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficiency in educational technology tools and learning management systems. Experience with D2L Brightspace is preferred.
- Experience with Universal Design for Learning is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- Familiarity with accreditation standards, federal compliance requirements, and assessment processes.
- Commitment to staying current with emerging trends in instructional design and higher education.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move about campus.
- Ability to interact via telephone, in person, and via electronic media.

Founded in 1893 in Mendota, Illinois, as Mendota Seminary, the institution soon changed its name to Mendota College. By 1911, it had outgrown its facilities and the following year changed its name to Aurora College and moved to Aurora, where its students could take advantage of a thriving business environment and easy access to Chicago. In 1985, Aurora College changed its name to Aurora University to better reflect the magnitude of its academic offerings. Seven years later, Aurora University and George Williams College traditions blended when the two institutions entered into an affiliation agreement that paved the way for a merger eight years later. In 2010, the Woodstock Center opened to meet the needs of students in McHenry County and surrounding communities.
