Roux Summer Research Intern Computational Medicine Research and Analysis About the Opportunity Summer Research Internships at The Roux Institute The Roux Institute Summer Research Internship Program is a 10-week full-time internship for graduate and undergraduate learners on-site at the Roux Institute campus of Northeastern University in Portland, ME.

Research Intern - Computational Medicine Research and Analysis This summer research internship position will focus on assisting the project 'Predicting Disease Outcome through analyzing JC Polyomavirus DNA sequences.' The primary goal of this project is to structure and analyze large datasets, specifically viral genomes isolated from patients, in order to determine disease outcomes. This is an interdisciplinary project, involving coding, biology, and modeling skills. The ideal candidate will have some experience in a related discipline but should also be willing and excited to learn multiple skills and novel approaches. The selected student will have the opportunity to use modeling approaches, such as logistic regression, to assess the association of genetic rearrangements in the viral genome, patient-tissue isolation source, and disease status. Additionally, the student will gain valuable skills in data visualization and developing summative models to synthesize their findings for a lay audience. Responsibilities - Analyze large datasets of JC Polyomavirus DNA sequences
- Generate code and analyze data in R coding language to create plots and figures
- Apply modeling approaches, including logistic regression, to assess the association of genetic rearrangements, patient-tissue isolation source, and disease status
- Effectively synthesize information into summative models for communication and presentation to a lay audience and for potential publication
Qualifications - Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g. Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Data Analysis)
- Interest in Quantitative Research, Data Analysis, Data Collection, Modeling, or Design/Build
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team
