Working/Functional Title

Spartan Linen Serv Motor Vehicle Oper

Position Summary

Loads truck with clean products and delivers to customers following deadlines, assigned routes, customers’ needs and communication from supervision; unloads items to various docks, offices, closets and locations seeking signatures and picking up dirty items to be laundered; communicates to team members and supervision any special requests, needs and concerns from customers that occurred while products are routed to locations; works closely with other drivers to insure all deadlines and customers are serviced in a timely manner; maintains cleanliness of truck fleet and communicates potential repairs needed and makes arrangement with supervisor to ensure those repairs are taken care of timely; completes other duties as assigned, such as taking items to off campus vendors to be silkscreen for customers. This position has “high” customer touch as far as communication between customers and team in the plant since often they are the only ones to see our customers. Daily driver engages in communication, “trouble shooting”, problem solving and making suggestions for improvements. Driver actively participates in Huddle groups to keep our business meeting IPO expectations and being a Lean Organization. Maintains cleanliness of fleet by daily, weekly cleaning tasks and also communicates any problems or repairs needed for the fleet of trucks. This position is located in the Linen Services Building.

All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they m upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community

Desired Qualifications

Experience driving truck to multiple locations, meeting tight time constraints while following all safety regulations.

Embraces customer service by going above and beyond to exceed their expectations while maintaining business efficiency and costs.

Shows flexibility and ability to change with needs of team, customer and un foreseen events.

Organized and able to complete of daily routine, ensuring all products delivered fulfilling customers’ and departmental expectations of quality and timeliness. 

Demonstrate initiative by making on the spot decisions in the “field” to ensure compliance procedures and customer service standards are maintained.

Good communication skills and problem solver as this position is viewed as the “face” of Spartan Linen since,  often times is the only engagement with customers is through this person/ driver.

Experience as team member that is able to work successfully and in collaboration in a diverse population while maintaining positive work relationships.

Dynamic self-starter who demonstrates a work orientation towards customer service, problem solving, organization, taking initiative, leadership, working as part of a team, and learning for continuous development; ability to multi-task and complete deadlines while interruptions can occur based on immediate customer needs.

Summary of Physical Demands
