In 1952, Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital (MIH) opened its doors to provide exceptional medical care in the only faith-based hospital on the Peninsula. I. Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for effective nursing and operational leadership. Serves as role model for clinical and professional practice. Participates in establishing standards of care by using evidence based practice or research. Effectively manages human resources. Maintains current knowledge related TJC and other regulatory agencies. Holds self and team members accountable for appropriate interdisciplinary interactions and customer service. Shift accountability for all patient care activities and staff functions.

II. Employment Qualifications

· Currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Virginia, or legally eligible to practice in Virginia based on the Nursing Compact.

· Minimum of three (3) years R.N. clinical experience in an acute care setting. Management or supervisory experience preferred.

· Bachelors degree desired.

· American Heart Association CPR certified or able to be CPR certified within thirty (30) days of hire.

· ACLS, NRP, etc is strongly encouraged. Have a comprehensive knowledge of nursing policies, procedures, standards, system and equipment, as well as demonstrated proficiency in nursing supervision.

· Be knowledgeable in legal aspects of nursing supervision.

· This individual will possess the adequate skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to all ages of patients served.

III. Essential Job Functions

· Assures quality patient care is provided by all departments within the division on the shift assigned by monitoring the delivery system through direct observation, patient family interview, physician communication and review of documentation.

· Assures that appropriate quantity and quality of nursing staff are available / assigned to meet the fluctuations in staffing needs throughout the division.

· Develops a strong degree of leadership within all departments of Mary Immaculate Hospital.

· Facilitates professional relationships and encourages the development of accountability by assuring interaction, collaboration, sharing of knowledge, and providing appropriate and meaningful judgments that will have a positive impact on the delivery of patient care services on the unit and throughout Mary Immaculate Hospital.

· Assures the efficient use of available resources in the provision of quality patient care in the pursuit of operational activities and objectives.

· Promotes public image of Mary Immaculate Hospital and develops rapport with patients, families and physicians. Treatment plan explained to patient/family using terminology and in a manner appropriate to age of patient

· Demonstrates general competency in providing Age Appropriate Care as indicated by the ability to assess, plan, provide and evaluate care based on the physiological, psychosocial, intellectual, and safety developmental needs of the patient.
