Job Opportunity: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse
Overview: We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse to join our dedicated healthcare team. As a PICU RN, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional patient care to children requiring intensive medical attention.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree/Education: Diploma in Nursing from a professional nursing program approved by the state accrediting agency. Registered Nurses must be graduates of an Associate Diploma or Baccalaureate Degree program from ACEN.
- Certifications: Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association (AHA), renewed biennially. Web-based classes are not accepted.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of qualifying experience in the specialty.
- Licensure: Current, valid, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any U.S. jurisdiction.
Job Responsibilities:
- Clinical Duties:
- Perform critical care duties, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating age-specific nursing care for children across all ages.
- Provide labor-intensive care to patients with complex medical and surgical pathologies.
- Patient Advocacy:
- Assess patient/family knowledge level, develop and implement an instructional plan, and document demonstrated understanding.
- Act as a patient advocate, managing patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring and a wide range of procedures.
- Communication and Documentation:
- Communicate pertinent patient information to the charge nurse and/or physician.
- Verify transcription of physician orders and develop/manage nursing care plans.
- Medication Administration:
- Administer medications within the scope of nursing practice, ensuring adherence to the "five rights."
- Conduct research on medications prior to administration, excluding anti-cancer chemotherapy drugs.
- Emergency Response:
- Assess patients for potential or life-threatening crises, initiate life-saving measures, and operate emergency equipment.
- Serve as a member of Rapid Response Team or emergency code team, depending on the position and protocol.
- Invasive Procedures:
- Assist in the management and/or perform invasive procedures, such as catheter insertion, balloon pump management, and arterial punctures.
- Quality Assurance/Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and respond to breaches of standard procedures.
- Participate in quality assurance/risk management and serve as a project officer for select committees.
- Leadership and Collaboration:
- Provide professional oversight for licensed practical nurses and unlicensed ancillary personnel.
- Attend and participate in patient nursing reports, conferences, and staff meetings.
Staffing and Scheduling:
- Normal duty hours for the positions shall be 0700-1930 or 1900-0730 Monday thru Sunday to include weekends and Holidays.
