Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Under the direction of the Supervisor – Planning and Scheduling or designee, the Planner/Scheduler is to improve work force productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating delays through planning and scheduling coordination of labor, parts, and material. Planner/Scheduler provides complex maintenance support for the planning and scheduling activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Planner/Scheduler I:

  1. Prepares job packages for every planned maintenance activity inclusive of repetitive maintenance and safe work practices.

  2. Develops and maintains preventive maintenance systems to promote equipment reliability.

  3. Determines and develops short (weekly) and long-term maintenance schedules, and reviews plans and schedules with respective department supervisors, when needed.

  4. Orders, receives, and supervises material to assist maintenance activities.

  5. Coordinates to rebuild spare equipment through external suppliers.

  6. Collects drawings, manuals, and other documents to assist contractor and maintenance repairs or modifications.

  7. Updates and maintains internal work plans databases.

  8. May serve as Project Manager on complex assignments.

  9. Enters parts for future stock items.

  10. Provides technical assistance for supporting entire on-site maintenance activities.

  11. Ensures compliance with all environmental, safety, and health regulations.

  12. Reviews corrective/preventive/predictive work for planning and scheduling in the assigned area(s) and provides time and estimates and priorities.

  13. Provides technical assistance to personnel supervised and to other groups/departments within the Utility.

  14. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Supervisor – Planning/Scheduling or designee.

  15. May perform administrative duties of the CMMS and other planning/scheduling tools.

  16. Coordinates work between Operations, Maintenance and Engineering departments to ensure work is prioritized to address the operational needs of the generation units.

Planner/Scheduler II:

In addition to the Planner/Scheduler I duties, the following will be expected of the Planner/Scheduler II:

  1. Responsible for ensuring job packages for every planned maintenance outage activity inclusive of repetitive maintenance and safe work practices are completed.

  2. Be the liaison between contractors, maintenance, operations, and engineering departments.

  3. Works with Purchasing and the Storeroom on requisitions pertaining to assigned area of the plant.

  4. Ensures all jobs are planned and ready prior to any major outage.

  5. Responsible for making financial decisions and how they affect the utility and power generation.

  6. Prepares project budgeting for capital and non-capital projects to be used for the future of power generation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or an applicable related field is required. Exceptional experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree. Exceptional related technical experience may be considered in lieu of power station experience.

Planner/Scheduler I:

Four years' recent progressively responsible experience in power station operation/maintenance is required.

Planner/Scheduler II:

Six years' recent progressively responsible experience in power station operation/maintenance is required.

Licensing/Certification:

Must have a valid driver’s license (minimum Class F).

In addition to the Planner/Scheduler I knowledge, skills, and abilities, the following will be expected of the Planner/Scheduler II:

Physical Requirements:

Typically, sedentary work. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required. Pushing, pulling, stooping, lifting 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally and working at heights. Able to work within the rated capacity of the Utility’s aerial lifts, ladders, fall restraint devices, and/or other related equipment.

Working Conditions:

Normal office and power station environment with the inherent noise and heat of large machinery and fugitive dust and fumes from the coal fuel. Work at heights on plant structures will sometimes be required. May work in proximity to toxic and corrosive chemicals.
