Job Summary



POSITION PURPOSE

This position will provide professional psychological services to students at Pine Technical & Community College. This will include, but is not limited to short-term individual and group therapy, case consultation, crisis/triage, supervision as appropriate, assessments, and assistance for other direct care staff. This position will develop and implement outreach programs and campus programs in collaboration with other departments. They will participate in College events and serve on committees. They will be actively engaged in professional development, conferences, department and division activities, professional associations, and workshops on campus. After hours responsibilities may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS

1. Provide short-term therapy/counseling services to meet specific student needs and help them achieve their academic completion goals.

a. Design, plan, and provide group and/or individual therapy/counseling services.

b. Collaborate and/or consult with mental health professionals as needed to perform mental health assessments and develop treatment plans for student clients.

c. Refer students to community resources, or specialists, as necessary. Select appropriate treatment plans which may include collaboration with a student’s current (or future) professional therapist.

d. Maintain current professional mental health provider’s resource list and make referrals for psychological assessments and follow-up services to external providers as needed.

e. Co-facilitate and lead the campus Behavior Intervention Team (BIT), including providing crisis/triage services as needed.

f. Serve as the confidential campus advocate/resource as it relates to Title IX, Sexual Violence, and Bias Response team.


2. Student persistence and success—develop, communicate, interpret, and implement campus efforts and processes to effectively impact college and individual student persistence and retention efforts.

a. Research current trends, evaluate student persistence and retention data, and develop processes that support student persistence and success as it relates to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

b. Lead the Satisfactory Academic Progress Committee (SAP), including prompt communications to applicants and committee members to ensure appeals are processed promptly.

c. Design, implement, and evaluate interventions for at-risk students, such as the academic alert system and emergency grants, and students on warning and probation.


3. Provide Student Success outreach initiatives to the Pine Technical and Community College community.

a. Coordinate community resources with other Student Success staff, particularly with mental health services (including PTCC applications like You at Pine).

b. Design, implement, and assess campus mental health programming for the campus community.

c. Serve on college committees, task forces, and work groups.

4. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the college and maintain the reputation of the college as a viable community partner.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master’s in Psychology or Clinical Psychology

2. Knowledge of current principles, practices, and techniques of the social and human service field

3. Knowledge of intervention techniques sufficient to meet the needs of the student population

4. Experience in providing individual and group therapy

5. Knowledge of community social and support resources

6. Knowledge of diverse, equity, and inclusion issues and ability to facilitate and manage students with such issues

7. Ability to manage crisis situations

8. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations affecting social and accessibility services

9. Demonstrated ability in resolving complex and challenging situations

Preferred Qualifications

1. Doctorate in Psychology or Clinical Psychology

2. 1-2 years of mental health counseling work experience in a college setting

Physical Requirements

May be in stationary position for extended period of time.

Additional Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
