Job description

The Verification Specialist (VS) is primarily responsible for obtaining and verifying all demographics and insurance information, confirming patient's identity and correctly entering information into billing system. This position involves extensive phone work.

Essential Functions

Research/confirm patient demographic information via tools provided.

Search for insurance coverage and verify eligibility via tools provided.

Contact patients to verify address and obtain insurance information.

Contact facilities to verify patient transport information.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Medical Insurance.
• Experience in a medical setting.
• Ability to achieve 97 to 100% accuracy on all data entry.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English language fluently.
• Ability to use computer with Microsoft Office package (Word and Excel).
• Ability to communicate with patients, medical facilities, and co-workers in a friendly, positive, and respectful manner.
• Ability to maintain a professional profile and demonstrate self-control.
• Ability to calmly deal with difficult people over the telephone.
• Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks at one time.
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with little supervision and ability to problem solve.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of ICD10, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
• Comfortable with Microsoft office products.
• Experience working in a medical billing office.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times. 
• Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
