We are seeking a full-time cellar assistant to join our production team at Duck Pond Cellars, which makes Duck Pond, Ransom and Rascal wines. The cellar hand will be responsible for completing all types of wine work, winery sanitation, and cellar organization as laid out by the winemaking staff, and report directly to our cellar master. They will also help provide leadership to harvest interns and part-time cellar staff. A strong candidate for this position will be a hard worker, a self-starter, thoughtful in how they manage their time, an ability to pivot, and be a team player.

About Us:
Duck Pond Cellars is a winery in the heart of the Willamette Valley. We are primarily focused on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris, but dabble in many other varieties grown in the state. Duck Pond offers a unique opportunity to gain experience with a broad spectrum of winemaking philosophies simultaneously – you will work in a large-scale production setting implementing conventional large-scale winemaking techniques and also have a hand in conducting small-lot single vineyard fermentations, making certified organic wines, and employing techniques such as spontaneous fermentation. If you’re curious about vermouth, we do that too. We are a close-knit team and we take pride in our ability to create great wines while working in an environment that is quality driven, safe, respectful, and fun (it turns out, they About aren’t mutually exclusive.)

Preferred Qualifications:
Some full time winery experience
Forklift Experience
Some sort of sense of humor
Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to problem solve

Skills/Experience Required:
Ability to work long hours and outside in all conditions
Ability to lift at least 50 lb.
Ability to be on your feet for extended periods
Willingness and ability to work 6 days/week during harvest
Previous winery production experience (at least 1 harvest)
Willingness to take direction and follow work orders through to completion
Ability to multitask in a fluid environment
Ability to set a good example and provide leadership for interns and temporary employees
Willingness to take on new tasks and learn new skills
Ability to pivot and keep a good attitude when things don’t go to plan
Ability to work with others and independently
Respect for personal safety as well as group safety.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to communicate to a working degree in English
Reliable transportation
Strong interpersonal skills and respect for other humans in general

Essential Tasks and Duties:
Complete work orders from supervisor(s) with due diligence
Operate pumps to perform racking, blending, and all manner of wine movements
Operate harvest equipment
Operate forklifts
Perform barrel work
Perform wine filtration
Perform additions to wine
Keep the winery clean and organized
Basic maintenance on cellar equipment
Help keep the cellar master apprised of the state of the wines and cellar
Provide guidance/leadership to harvest interns and temporary staff
Follow Standard Operating Procedures
Uphold quality standards in all areas of wine production
Adhere to good safety practices
Perform other duties as assigned by management (occasional bottling, facility upkeep,etc)
