Student Leadership Development Admin

Position Summary

The Residential Student Leadership Administrator oversees the student leadership development and advising responsibilities of the student groups that originate within the on-campus residence halls and apartments, including but not limited to the Residence Hall Association (RHA), University Apartments Council of Residents (UACOR), and the Owen Graduate Association (OGA). This position helps develop student leaders for all recognized and funded student clubs and organizations in the residence halls and on-campus apartments. The Student Leadership Development Administrator provides leadership, training, and ongoing development for other team members also serving as advisors to recognized student clubs and organizations in the residence halls.    

The Student Leadership Development Administrator directs, plans, and provides opportunities for residential students and staff to develop and enhance inclusive leadership skills and behaviors. This includes working with the Residence Education and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) units in supporting the student learning goals of the residential curriculum as it relates to individual development, community development, and inclusive living and learning.  

This position is a liaison to the University Activities Board (UAB), Council of Graduate Students (COGs), Associated Students of MSU (ASMSU), the Council of Racial and Ethnic Students (CORES), the Council of Progressive Students (COPS), the Department of Student Development and Leadership as well as other campus-wide student and service organizations.  

Characteristic Duties & Expectations:

Work Hours

This position holds daily work week hours, 8am-5pm; however, weeknight and occasional weekend hours expected to attend residential student organization meetings, events, and trainings.  In consultation with the supervisor, daily hours are adjusted to account for these non-standard work hours.

All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community. 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Masters in Administration or a Behavioral Science field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in administration, program development and personnel development and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Written and verbal fluency in foreign language may be required.

Additional Qualifications:

Work experience in residence hall administration and advising.
