About the Job The Research Assistant will be responsible for the support of
pediatric cancer epidemiology and cancer outcomes studies. The main goals are to understand etiology, prevention and the health implications
of treatment for cancer during childhood and adolescence. In this position, you will assist in all aspects of study fieldwork including
biospecimen collection, health history documentation, medical record ascertainment and novel app-based applications. You will gain
experience working with participants within both a health research-related setting and a remote setting. You will also become familiar with
the preparation and logging of study materials critical to the success of the study. Additionally, you will assist with medical records
requests and clinical reviews. This is a great opportunity for students pursuing or considering a career in medicine, public health or other
medical related research fields.
Responsibilities:
30% Working directly with pediatric cancer patients and their families
over the phone and utilizing app-based technology to conduct health evaluationsÂ
30% Preparing medical record requests and clinical
reviews for study investigators
25% Creating and distributing biospecimen collection and remote app-based test kits
15% Processing
and logging biospecimens in a state-of-the-art research laboratory
Qualifications All required
qualifications must be documented on application materials Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or
equivalent
- Experience working with the public
- High levels of organization, communication, and
time-management
- Available and willing to work a flexible schedule that may include regular evenings and weekendsÂ
- At least
one college level science laboratory class
- Fluent in English and Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in
healthcare environment
- Experience with epidemiology research data/methods
About the Department The
position is in the Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Research in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical
School. The Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Research has a 30-year history of conducting epidemiologic research into the causes of
childhood cancer, outcomes during treatment, and late-effects among survivors. Currently five faculty work in this area, along with numerous
graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. You will be a part of a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative atmosphere working with other
trainees, faculty, staff and members of the general public.
