Job description

The Foundations Development Manager is an experienced professional and strategic thinker who will help advance the organization’s mission, guide the organization’s philanthropic fundraising strategy, oversee and execute relationship-building activities, implement and coordinate effective multi-year strategies, and lead grant pursuits. The FDM will seek proactive opportunities to communicate about VEIC’s mission and work with potential philanthropic, corporate, and organizational funders. The FDM will coordinate a collaborative team, partner with the marketing and communications team, and work closely with the organization’s staff and Board to increase support for the organization. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director for Government Affairs & Policy.

• Provides strategic leadership in close partnership with the Sr. Director, Government Affairs & Policy and the Chief Growth and Impact Officer for planning, implementing, evaluating, and administering all philanthropic and corporate fundraising strategies.
• Builds a portfolio of qualified donors, developing relationships, and converting on opportunities to drive philanthropic funding to VEIC.
• Manages the organization’s grant management pipeline, workflow, and schedules. 
• Initiates, cultivates, and maintains relationships with crucial grant management contacts within funder organizations. 
• Persuasively conveys the mission of VEIC to diverse groups who are important to the organization's overall fundraising. 
• Implements and manages fundraising plans.
• Works collaboratively with the marketing and communications team and management staff to develop and implement messaging that supports fundraising and outreach efforts and the advancement of the organization’s mission.
• Assists in writing, editing, and reviewing funding proposals and reports to ensure quality control and deadline requirements.
• Persuasively conveys the mission of VEIC to diverse groups who are important to the organization's overall fundraising. 
• Designs and delivers engagement opportunities such as webinars, receptions, mailings, and events for donors and prospects. 
• Prepares and engages staff and Board as ambassadors for VEIC as part of their roles with the organization. 
• Establishes a VEIC funder database management system in Salesforce to optimize data capture, track engagement and activity of individuals and organizations, develop donor prospects and leads, segment and analyze data to increase and diversify engagement, and target communications to maximize effectiveness.
• Assists the Manager of Pursuits and Proposals on dashboard development and reporting of activities, pipeline, and grant awards from Salesforce. 
• Other duties as assigned.

• Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC.  
• Bachelor’s degree in business, non-profit administration or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired.
• Minimum five years of work experience in fundraising and project management in a nonprofit organization.
• Direct experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with foundations and other large philanthropic donors.
• Excellent project management skills, including successfully directing and managing an organization’s fundraising strategy and its execution.
• Experience in asking for, writing, and closing grants of $250,000 or more.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write and speak about complex issues in a compelling manner.
• Substantial interest, confidence, and ability to build stakeholder relationships.
• Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.
• Capacity to respond quickly, be flexible, and positively adapt to change.
• Experience in the clean energy sector, decarbonization, and/or energy equity is desirable but not required.
