Part Time

The Organist works closely with the Worship Planning Team and music staff coordinating music for one Sunday morning sanctuary worship service that is also broadcast live on KAKE-TV, the Wichita ABC affiliate television station, YouTube and Facebook.

Regular Duties

• Accompanist for Chancel Choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings, year-round
• Primary organist for Sunday morning worship (preparing preludes, postludes, hymns/service music, etc.)
• Part of the planning team for music selections and guest artists
• Accompanist for soloists and guest artists
• Oversee musical instrument maintenance in worship and rehearsal spaces
• Participation in weekly worship planning

Occasional Duties

• Funeral Organist
• Wedding Organist
• Special events/concerts
• Raises money for organ maintenance
• Promotes music program and collaboration with colleagues in the city

Qualities, Skills, Experience, Education

• Accomplished accompanist and performer on both organ and piano (performance degree preferred)
• Experience in leading worship
• Familiarity with wide selection of music both classical and sacred
• Connection with city musical community
• Able to work within a team
• Able to supervise maintenance of organs/pianos

Salary $17,000-$23,000 depending on credentials and experience

The pipe organ in the Sanctuary of Wichita First United Methodist Church was built by the Schantz Organ Company of Orrville, Ohio, in 1998, with further additions made in 2007. The instrument contains a total of 78 ranks of pipes, and about 6,700 individual pipes. It is considered one of the finest and largest pipe organs in the state of Kansas and has the added benefit of being in an acoustically gracious, as well as visually appealing room. 

The chapel contains a pipe organ built by the Reuter Organ Company of Lawrence, Kansas. This organ was built in the early 20th century and moved to the church from another local church. This instrument contains 9 ranks.
