SUMMARY: The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for conducting psychiatric assessments and diagnostic procedures for patients, in accordance with established standards of practice. This position requires evaluating and documenting identified medical problems and report them in a timely manner to the supervising physician.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Maintain patient records, including nurse’s notes and medication records, physician order forms, assessments and other essential documentation.
- Prescribe psychotropic medication in accordance with established prescriptive practice guidelines.
- Adhere to Universal Precautions for Infection Control and to proper procedures for disposal of sharps.
- Participate in treating planning sessions, clinical case reviews and in-service training programs.
- Adhere to the professional staff code of ethics.
- Participate in clinical supervision sessions with a supervising psychiatrist in accordance with the Practice and Prescriptive Guidelines.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform the job.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Documented evidence of completion of an advanced nursing mental health education program which is approved by a national professional nursing accrediting body.
- Experience: Documented experience in conducting psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic procedures. Knowledge and understanding of behavioral health and the capability to provide treatment consistent with standards of professional care.
- Skills : Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, management and other professionals to achieve program objectives.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Current licensure in Massachusetts as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and certification by a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Current registration with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration Board.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: - Current licensure in Massachusetts as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and certification by a nationally recognized accrediting body approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
