Summary:



Under the supervision of the Dayton Director, the Manager of Finance and Planning (MFP) is responsible for a range of operations of the Tang Museum.  This includes the processing of all financial transactions, along with the daily management of the Tangâ™s operating budget, grant funded projects, vendor payments, and financial affairs; multi-year planning for grants, gifts and special projects; long-range financial planning, operational planning and financial analysis; and management of the human resources function at the museum.  The MFP will work closely with Skidmore Advancement to reconcile gift receipts and ensure the appropriate recording, expenditure, and reporting of restricted gifts and endowments. 



The MFP functions as the liaison with Skidmoreâ™s Financial Services and is responsible for managing the Tangâ™s financial operations in accordance with Skidmoreâ™s financial policies and procedures, and troubleshooting unusual financial situations. The MFP is also the liaison with Skidmoreâ™s Human Resources, Student Employment and Payroll offices and handles routine HR and payroll issues, along with problem resolution, the establishment of new positions and the development of new position descriptions.



The MFP is a key member of the museumâ™s senior staff and works closely with the Director and other senior staff to lead key policy developments and protocols.  The MFP will recommend, develop and implement policies with regard to finance and administration of the entire staff and is a key advisor to the Director.  The MFP will provide staff support for various strategic planning, forecasting and assessment efforts undertaken by the Director. The MFP also works closely with the Tangâ™s National Advisory Council and Skidmore Advancement, including Friends of the Tang and other community relations, communications and cultivation activities.



Education and/or Training





The Manager for Finance and Planning should possess strong financial skills, an in-depth knowledge of fund accounting, and expertise in budget and accounting procedures. Both a theoretical and practical understanding of financial issues is required.  The position requires precision, accuracy, integrity, and detail orientation in all fiscal matters. Strong written and oral communication skill are needed, as is experience with personnel management and human resource policies.  The MFP should have an appreciation of the education and art museum environment and bring a creative, team-oriented, problem-solving attitude and approach to their work.



Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience.
