Company: A growing security guard service provider is looking to hire an experienced Operations Manager responsible for staffing, scheduling, and managing security guards within the designated area.
Job Summary: The Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation of security personnel within the assigned region. This position involves maintaining clear communication with security guards, managing schedules, addressing concerns, and making timely hiring and disciplinary decisions. The Operations Manager also plays a crucial role in maintaining high morale among employees, meeting contractual requirements, and adhering to company policies.
Job Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Staffing:
- Interview and hire qualified applicants following company guidelines.
- Evaluate underperforming employees for replacement or improvement.
- Extend initial/conditional job offers with rates, schedules, and benefits aligned with contract requirements.
- Maintain a weekly Open Post Log and manage job openings in collaboration with HR.
Scheduling and Coverage:
- Create, modify, and manage post schedules using scheduling systems.
- Ensure continuous coverage in compliance with contract requirements.
- Manage overtime through effective scheduling and hiring.
- Maintain a qualified pool of guards to cover vacant positions.
Timekeeping and Record Keeping:
- Receive weekly timesheets and update scheduling systems as needed.
- Ensure accurate timekeeping procedures are followed.
- Conduct weekly audits of timekeeping records.
Employee Relations and Discipline:
- Conduct disciplinary and counseling sessions as needed.
- Document all issues according to company standards.
- Initiate termination procedures when necessary.
Communication and Morale:
- Maintain regular contact with security guards to ensure effective utilization and training.
- Promote high employee morale and reduce turnover through proactive communication and issue resolution.
- Enforce post-specific policies and procedures through proper training and communication.
Administrative Tasks:
- Maintain an organized and clean working area.
- Meet daily, weekly, and bi-weekly deadlines.
- Prepare and review required reports with the management team.
- Address guard report deficiencies and operational issues as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other projects or tasks as directed by managers.
Qualifications: To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required. College degree or coursework desirable.
- 3 years of prior security industry and/or military experience preferred.
- 3–5 years of professional-level experience managing non-exempt employees.
- Ability to obtain a valid Guard License if required by the state.
- Possession of a current California state driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and various software.
- Customer service-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Professional demeanor, integrity, and discretion.
