Job description As a Senior Manager of External Communications, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the company's brand equity, identity and reputation. This leader will be responsible for creating and executing external communication strategies, including executive positioning and generating significant earned media coverage. The role reports directly to the Vice President, Corporate Communications and Culture, and will support the company's senior leadership team by developing and activating comprehensive communication plans, and ensuring alignment between the company's messaging and its values. The position requires a strategic thinker with exceptional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills who is an expert storyteller and passionate about pitching the media.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES External Communications: - Develop a comprehensive, strategic external communications plan that aligns with the company's objectives, strategy and core values
- Tactical execution of all external communications activities
- Drive corporate brand equity and strengthen the company's reputation and image with key external stakeholders, including the media, customers, industry leaders, community members, investors, potential employees and other external audiences
- Create, refine and distribute key messages to external stakeholders and identify new solutions for reaching all audience segments
- Lead the company's media relations efforts, driving to increase the company's share of earned media and building reporter relationships to generate positive earned media coverage
- Create and execute a C-Suite visibility campaign to position select leaders as industry thought leaders
- Oversee the creation of marketing materials, website content, social media content and presence, and public relations campaigns
- Develop and execute external communication plans for M&A transactions and ESG
- Prepare executives and company representatives for media engagements and external presentations
- Oversee media monitoring and provide analysis and reporting
- Act as a company spokesperson and engage with external stakeholders, including media and industry partners
- Manage the company's community relations and public relations efforts
- Oversee agency work and build strong partnerships across agency teams
Crisis Management: - Develop and execute crisis communication plans to effectively manage potential reputational risks, preserving the company's positive image
- Serve as a key spokesperson during any company crisis
- Coordinate communication efforts during challenging situations to maintain transparency and manage brand reputation and public perception
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field required; advanced degree is a plus
- Minimum of 10 years of proven experience in corporate communications and media relations with a track record of successful performance
- Must be enthusiastic and passionate about creating marketing materials, website content, social media content and presence, and create public relations campaigns to help tell our story and build our brand
- Strategic thinker with the ability to align external communication efforts with company's goals and values
- Experience discovering opportunities for executive external speaking engagements and industry trade publications where we can further promote our business and products
- Strong understanding of media landscape, including traditional and social media platforms, and an expert in media monitoring and reporting tools
- Significant experience building relationships with members of the media and generating positive earned media
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear and compelling messages for various audiences
- Experience successfully managing through and responding to crisis situations
- Demonstrated excellence in executing C-Suite visibility campaigns
- Extremely detail oriented with high quality standards
- Have executive presence with the ability to effectively coach senior leaders
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously, working well under pressure
- Proficiency in leveraging communication tools, technology, and platforms to drive engagement and deliver messages effectively
