BS - $51,172.16 - $77,392.64
Masters Degree- $55,130.40 - $81,877.12 
Masters Degree + 30 - $59,042.88 - $86,224.32
(The formula used for the amounts reflected is the daily rate of pay X 224 days and includes $.60/hour institutional Stipend and 10% Salary Adjustment)

MDOC is destigmatizing corrections for the betterment of all Maine communities. Through the ‘Maine Model of Corrections’, we promote the safety of our staff and residents while reducing barriers to meaningful rehabilitative opportunities. We facilitate restorative justice practices that equip justice-involved residents and clients with the skills they need to become contributing members of society upon release, including treatment, education, and job training.

The Department of Corrections is accepting applications for a Teacher of Language Arts at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, ME. This is a full-time, year-round, 224-day position with a primary purpose to teach Language Arts to justice involved youth residing at the facility.

About Us:

Located in South Portland, ME, Long Creek Youth Development Center is the ONLY secure juvenile justice center in Maine. Our modern facility is focused on the wellbeing of juvenile residents and staff. We offer 17 programs to support behavioral rehabilitation, educational attainment, and workforce skills for justice-involved youth.

The A.R. Gould School, within Long Creek, is an accredited, public, diploma-granting high school and alternative academic program for juvenile residents in our care. The goal of the educational program is to ensure that all students receive academics, aligned with State and National standards, that are relevant, engaging, and designed to prepare students for re-entry into the community.
