THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:

The API Architect will play a pivotal role defining the strategic direction, standards, and governance as we embrace an API-first strategy. Primary responsibility will be to define and execute the API strategy, playing a pivotal role in establishing a robust API ecosystem. They will be a highly skilled technical resource who is an innovative thinker and can envision how technology can be leveraged to solve complex business problems. Your responsibilities will extend beyond individual projects to shape the broader API landscape, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment with business objectives. Collaborating closely with development teams and key stakeholders, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining a world-class API architecture.

YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS BY:

• API Strategy and Vision : Define and develop an API-first strategy aligned with organizational goals and future growth plans. Assess current systems and architecture to identify opportunities for API integration and optimization. Implement API management using API management software (like Apigee or others) to include API proxies, mashups, rate limiting, security, analytics, monetization, and developer portals.
• Standards and Governance : Establish API standards and governance frameworks to ensure consistency, security, and compliance. Develop and implement processes for effective API lifecycle management. Create and run a governing forum for the delivery of an API led integration approach including the versioning and maintaining of a cross domain API catalog.
• Collaboration and Education : Collaborate with development teams, architects, and business stakeholders to communicate and evangelize the API-first vision. Lead change management efforts to facilitate the adoption of API best practices across the organization.
• Technical Leadership : Provide technical leadership to development teams, guiding them in the adoption of API design principles and standards. Evaluate and recommend API management tools and platforms to support the evolving strategy.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance : Implement quality assurance processes to ensure that APIs adhere to standards and deliver reliable performance. Ensure compliance with security standards, data privacy regulations, and other relevant policies.
• Documentation and Communication : Develop comprehensive documentation for API standards, guidelines, and best practices. Provide training and support to development teams to ensure successful implementation of the API-first strategy.

THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or applicable work experience.

• 10+ years of progressive experience in Integrations/APIs with focus on architecture, strategy, standards, and governance.

• 5+ years demonstrated leadership experience in complex business and technical environments as an Architect preferably in integration/API management domain is required.

• Proven experience in defining and implementing API strategies within a large-scale organization.
• Strong understanding of API standards, design principles, and governance frameworks.
• Familiarity with API management tools and platforms (i.e. Apigee Edge and/or Apigee X).
• Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to influence and guide teams in adopting API best practices.
• Previous experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and fostering a culture of excellence.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on addressing complex challenges in API design and governance.
• Ability to analyze business requirements and translate them into strategic API solutions.
• Ability to adapt to emerging technologies and industry trends.
• Commitment to continuous learning and staying informed about advancements in API architecture.

• Hands-on experience in designing Cloud applications, API management, and API security standards leveraging Cloud native solutions.

• Proven experience in leveraging Cloud related technologies to design integrations between on-premises and Cloud components and general Cloud ready application principles.
• Is well versed in industry standard protocols and formats (e.g., RESTful, SOAP, XML, JSON, AMQP, JMS, OAUTH)
• Understands and conforms to compliance, SOX, CCPA, GDPR and like standards.
• Working experience in an Agile development environment
