Overview
Utilitra provides engineering and design services for electrical, natural gas, communication, and water distribution facilities to investor-owned utilities, municipalities, utility cooperatives, and industrial sites. All phases of the project are supported from concept to final construction. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the performance of these services.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Work Management
- Coordinate the management of the department project portfolio
- Optimize the work assignments of all members of the department
- Own the Department workflow process including:
- Identification of roles and responsibilities for team members
- Tracking and measurement of Key Performance Indicators
- Strategy for the storage of project information
- Identify opportunities for improvement
- Ensure management of all aspects throughout the life of the projects including, but not limited to:
- Customer Communication
- Project documentation and proposals
- Schedule
- Financial agreements and tracking
- Staff assignments
- Scope Changes
- Issue resolution
- Mentor Project Managers for individual projects
- Forecast department resource requirements
- Conduct process training for new employees
- Recommend staff assignment to projects based on scope, availability, and timeline
- Provide scheduled reports to departmental and company leadership
- Ensure the work product is high quality, timely and efficient
Professional Skills
- Uphold departmental quality performance measures
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational opportunities, reading professional publications, networking, and participating in professional associations
- Develop and conduct training topics as needed by the department
- Provide updates to departmental and company leadership
- Contribute to the strategic planning of the department
- Provide input on creation of departmental budgets
- Assist with the development and tracking of department performance measures
- Continuously review departmental processes to identify opportunities for improvement
- Guard product and company reputation by complying with all applicable legal, safety, and municipal requirements; serves as an ambassador in the community for Utilitra
Employee Management
- Indirectly lead employees through the creation and monitoring of project deliverables and timelines.
- Mentor and develop employees through training and project experience
- Provide input on the performance of team members
- Foster a safe, productive work environment; encourage an attitude of safety and quality in others; demonstrate a concern for everyone's safety
- Serve as an example for other employees to strive towards and foster a culture of respect, integrity, and kindness
- Demonstrate strong leadership and influencing skills
- The person in this role will uphold the culture of Utilitra
Business Development
- Communicate frequently with existing customers to identify upcoming opportunities
- Expand relationships and networking groups with existing customers
- Educate potential customers on the Utilitra skills and services
- Attend events, meetings, and conferences both as a participant and as a vendor
- Identify new areas of opportunity for Utilitra
Other duties as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field
- 5+ years' experience in engineering work management with a strong preference for experience with utility-scale electric or gas distribution projects and construction practices
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is preferred
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
