Job description
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Conducts speech/hearing screenings and evaluations and implements appropriate speech and language services for Pre-K through grade 12.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Functional knowledge of the Virginia Regulations Governing Special Education programs for students with disabilities.
- Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice,and language impairments.
- Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
- Provides therapeutic individualized programs to meet students' needs relative to existing speech and language handicaps.
- Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual receiving therapy or other school-provided speech services.
- Maintains lists of referred, screened and eligible students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Ability to motivate, inspire and help children develop effectively.
- Ability to use augmentative communication and assistive technology devices.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with students' parents and school personnel.
- Ability to develop IEP goals and objectives and align with SOL's.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Must hold or be eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia-Department of Health Professions-Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
