Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). MSTS has an opportunity for a Senior Administrative Specialist, for our North Las Vegas location within our Internal Audit department.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as assistant to a senior-level management official in coordinating and directing office management activities to ensure implementation of Company policies, directives, and procedures.
- Perform a wide variety of business activities of broad scope, related to key business and technical operations, processes, programs, and projects.
- Evaluate business effectiveness of programs and processes and formulates recommendations for solving problems and addressing issues and for improving work group effectiveness.
- Exercise considerable discretion and judgment in performing work and conducting evaluations of operation/process effectiveness.
- Work with other work groups and outside agencies, customers/sponsors, suppliers as required to administer projects and programs effectively.
- Maintain regular contact with diverse personnel including DOE/NNSA, user agencies, and other operating departments to provide assistance and coordinate office management activities or execute administrative procedures.
- Recommend effective control systems relative to implementing administrative policies and procedures. Initiate changes required to implement improvements.
- Develop relationships as need to perform work effectively. Acts as a liaison with other organizations and outside agencies, handles confidential and non-routine information and explains policies when necessary.
- Provide guidance to students, interns, contractors and other support personnel, as a mentor or as a team/project leader.
- Promote quality by conducting training programs and communicating with other Company organizational units.
- Develop budget estimates and justifications.
- Analyze existing and proposed reports for reporting methods and procedures and assists supervision in work force planning activities.
- Assist in ensuring adherence to established personnel policies relative to the requisitioning, transfer, reclassification, performance evaluation, and termination of the organizational unit’s employees.
- Assist in coordinating safety and security requirements.
- Prepare activity reports, correspondence, and memoranda.
- Direct office operations, including record files and mail distribution, reproduction, supplies and equipment services, and clerical training responsibilities.
- Work independently on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects. Acts as project manager for special projects, at the request of the manager.
- Perform other duties assigned by Management.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent training and experience and at least 5 years of professional level experience, which provided a thorough working knowledge of administrative policies and procedures.
- Able to apply knowledge of principles, concepts and theory related to professional business discipline/field related to the position and employ a systems approach to address issues and define and resolve problems.
- Able to exercise considerable discretion and judgment in performing work and conducting evaluations of operation/process effectiveness.
- Able to utilize initiative and possess ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports.
- Able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities in the most efficient manner and meet required deadlines.
- Able to communicate with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.
- Able to remember extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details.
- Able to use software applications needed in the position, including accounting software, analytical software, financial analysis software, word processing software, spreadsheet software, presentation software, and database software.
- Able to provide guidance to students, interns, contractors, and other support personnel, as a mentor or as a team/project leader.
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2 , “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy L Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 , “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709 , “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $77,001.60 to $115,502.40.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
