The Parole Board Administration Manager administers, supervises, and manages the workflow processes and programs within the Parole Board Administration Office. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of special projects and new initiatives; administering the executive clemency, dispositional, and revocation processes; tracking, monitoring, and reporting performance measures; and acting as liaison to courts, attorneys, Governor's office staff, offenders and their families, and the public. This position reports to the Director of Finance & Administration.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing administrative support to the Parole Board to ensure compliance with South Dakota codified law;
- Issuance of parole warrants at the request of the Chair of the Parole Board;
- Coordination of Parole Board support processes;
- Supervision of Parole Board Administration staff;
- Researching and applying national standards and best practices to develop and review policy and training standards in compliance with statutes for the parole board processes.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A bachelor's or advanced degree in criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
Supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- outstanding oral and written communication skills needed for testifying and presenting information to a wide array of governmental bodies, officials, offenders, and the public;
- in-depth knowledge of corrections and parole board systems, including applicable federal laws, regulations, and case law;
- ability to develop and manage a diverse workforce, provide leadership, meet timelines and achieve goals set by the Chair of the Parole Board;
- ability to engage in strategic planning, proactively identify emerging issues, and implement best practices;
- ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of individuals; and
- outstanding organizational abilities to effectively balance complex, ongoing processes with a systemic perspective.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
