Job description
Medicaid intake for the incarcerated population involves examining how individuals who are incarcerated can access Medicaid benefits before, during, and after their incarceration. Job duties to include:
1. Policy Analysis : Examining federal and state policies regarding Medicaid eligibility and coverage for incarcerated individuals, including rules governing suspension vs. termination of benefits during incarceration.
2. Legal Framework : Understanding the legal framework governing Medicaid eligibility for incarcerated individuals, including regulations related to pre-release enrollment, suspension, and reinstatement of benefits upon release.
3. Data Collection : Gathering data on the prevalence of Medicaid enrollment among incarcerated individuals, as well as the impact of incarceration on Medicaid coverage continuity and healthcare access.
4. Barriers to Enrollment : Identifying barriers that incarcerated individuals face in enrolling or maintaining Medicaid coverage, such as lack of awareness of eligibility criteria, bureaucratic hurdles, and challenges in accessing enrollment assistance.
5. Best Practices : Researching best practices and innovative approaches used by correctional facilities, healthcare providers, and community organizations to facilitate Medicaid enrollment and access to healthcare services for incarcerated individuals.
6. Collaboration : Investigating collaborations between correctional facilities, Medicaid agencies, and community-based organizations to streamline the enrollment process, ensure continuity of care, and facilitate access to Medicaid upon release.
7. Health Outcomes : Assessing the impact of Medicaid enrollment and access to healthcare services on the health outcomes of incarcerated individuals, including reductions in recidivism rates and improvements in overall health and well-being.
