Position description The Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant Researcher position in the Planetary Science and Astrobiology Group. The Assistant Researcher will work in the moon-plasma interaction group led by Dr. Andrew Poppe and will broadly focus on investigating space plasma interactions with the Moon, Mercury, asteroids, moons of Mars, and outer planet satellites. Research is to be conducted via a combination of data analysis from past and current in-situ plasma observations and numerical modeling across a wide range of scales. Additional duties include presentation and publication of scientific results and the submission of extramural grant proposals.
Responsibilities:
- Development and execution of an independently led research program related to existing research in the moon-plasma interaction group at SSL
- Preparation, submission, and publication of high-quality scientific manuscripts in appropriate peer-reviewed journals
- Presentation of scientific results at appropriate scientific conferences and internal and/or external seminars
- Development and submission of extramural grant proposals to external agencies (e.g., NASA, NSF)

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A PhD or equivalent international degree.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
- At least two years of related work experience post-PhD.
- A publication record supporting the candidate's research independence.
Preferred qualifications - Strong background in space plasma physics and/or space plasma interactions with planetary bodies
- Experience in theoretical analysis, data analysis, or numerical modeling of space plasma interactions with moons, asteroids, or solid-surface planets (e.g., Mercury)
- Demonstrated record of successful publications in appropriate peer-reviewed academic journals -Experience in the development and submission of extramural grant proposals to appropriate agencies (e.g., NASA, NSF)
- Mastery of at least one appropriate computational/data analysis language (e.g., IDL, Python, MATLAB)
