Job description
POSITION PURPOSE:
Staff Physicians at the Sonoran University Medical Center provide the full scope of patient management services that fall within their field of training, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care, and health maintenance in a patient-centered care environment. In addition to providing general medical care, this position reviews laboratory and imaging findings and when appropriate refers patients to community providers for specialist diagnostic procedures and/or treatment. As part of the Sonoran University Clinics system, this position includes administrative responsibilities, responsibility for clinical education of students and residents, as well as private practice opportunity.
Salary: $60,000- $120,000+ per year. (base salary of 60k plus uncapped yearly incentive plan). Benefits : - Guaranteed Base Salary: $60k annually.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core
- Promote Sonoran University’s vision, mission, and core values in all professional and clinical interactions.
- Participate in the patient-centered model of care that defines Sonoran University’s clinical teaching environments.
- Remain current on policies and procedures relevant to the practice of naturopathic medicine in Arizona.
- Accept walk-in patients and triage patient calls.
- Obtain health history, perform physical examinations, diagnose and treat in accordance with Arizona scope of practice.
- Exercise autonomy in medical decision-making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
- Monitor therapies and provide continuity of care.
- Review incoming reports and correspondence and provide patient follow-up in a timely manner.
- Arrange for patient referrals for services not offered by the Sonoran University Medical Center.
- Document patient information and care in electronic medical records, per Sonoran University policy. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records; review and lock charts within 8 days post-visit.
- Actively participate in peer review and other quality improvement activities, including chart audits.
- Provide leadership in responding to medical emergencies in the Medical Center, and on the Sonoran University campus.
- Provide cohesive patient care including collaboration with clinicians, faculty, students, and staff across departments, as appropriate.
- Coordinate with other medical providers in the implementation and review of Sonoran University clinical policies and procedures. Assist in updating clinical policies and practice procedures, as requested.
- Meet performance and quality indicators as determined by Sonoran University.
- Participate in marketing opportunities to grow the Medical Center patient base, as requested.
- Comply with Sonoran University infection control initiatives that include, but are not limited to, applying universal standard precautions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and promote a culture of patient safety.
- Participate in peer review, provider meetings, Clinical Faculty meetings, and other meetings as requested.
- Maintain a positive work environment by conducting oneself and communicating in a manner that is conducive to promoting an atmosphere of cooperation with all members of the Sonoran University community.
Clinical Education
- Supervise medical students and residents on assigned clinical rotations in accordance with current course outlines and program outcomes.
- Review and update clinical syllabi in cooperation with department faculty and department chair.
- Modify course content or instructional methods based on student and course assessment results.
- Perform regular evaluations of student performance.
- Submit students’ grades and course reports in a timely manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES: - Knowledge of techniques and practice of medicine, including but not limited to, relevant equipment, procedures, laboratory and imaging methods.
- Knowledge of current literature and developments in the field of medicine.
- Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient information.
- Skill in accurately evaluating patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention, or referral.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients, the public, and other Sonoran University employees.
- Skill in developing/revising patient care plans based on patient status.
- Ability to make responsible medical decisions within scope of practice.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians on complicated cases.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: - Active and unrestricted Arizona license to practice medicine, license to dispense, and valid DEA number.
- Maintain current BLS certificate plus other advanced competencies as deemed necessary for level of training (ACLS, PALS, etc.).
- MMR, TB, Hepatitis B and COVID vaccination documentation as per Sonoran University Medical Center policy.
- Successfully complete mandatory annual trainings as assigned by Sonoran University including but not limited to HIPAA, FERPA, OSHA, etc.
- Three to five years of post-graduate health care experience preferred.
