Job Description Summary
The Fuel Components Operation (FCO) Manufacturing Engineer is accountable for multiple processes and equipment in the tubing production process. This engineer is responsible for fostering a high-performance and safety-minded culture in the Tubing area. This role will be part of a team of manufacturing engineers sharing knowledge and expertise to assist in day-to-day issues. The Manufacturing Engineer in tubing will play a critical role in improving equipment reliability and driving process improvements.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Drive maximum value from the equipment by training operators, improving machine safety, and maintaining the highest quality across multiple shifts.
- Maintain, review, update and create area operating procedures (OPs), temporary operating instructions (TOI’s), job hazards analyses (JHA) and chemical job hazards analyses (CJHA).
- Work side by side with maintenance and operations to drives continuous improvement efforts within current process technologies and in development and implementation of new technologies.
- Ensure team members are provided adequate training, resources, and support to assure safe and compliant activities in a nuclear regulated environment.
- Apply modern engineering science (such as lean manufacturing concepts, six-sigma methodology, and statistical process analysis) theories to continuously improve efficiency of manufacturing processes.
- Apply engineering analytical skills to identify root cause failures and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat issues.
- Work with EH&S team to ensure compliance to applicable requirements including ergonomic, energy control requirements, and safety and environmental regulations.
- Evaluate manpower, equipment, systems needed to accomplish objectives.
- Specification of new processes and designs, as well as development, installation, and qualification of new equipment.
- Oversees efficient and effective shutdown operations by meeting schedule and cost targets.
- Provide leadership for technical solutions to operational problems including systems optimization, debottlenecking, and troubleshooting.
- Other relevant duties as assigned by manager.
Required Qualifications
- 4 Year Technical Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline from an accredited university OR equivalent military training and experience.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in areas related to manufacturing engineering.
Eligibility Requirements
- Expert using PC and productivity software [examples include MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint]
- Ability to work full-time in person in Wilmington NC.
- Must maintain after hours cell phone availability and be able to support outside normal working hours if needed.
Desired Characteristics
- Tubing reduction or Pilgering experience.
- Ability to approach every day with a sense of urgency.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
- Prior experience with heat treatment vessels and heat treatment processes.
- Familiar with basic operation, troubleshooting and application of industrial equipment and processes such as pumps, piping, motors, fans, valves, gears, mixing, heating, cooling, chemical reactions, furnaces, heat exchangers, hoods, vibrators, hydraulics etc.
- Ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
- Experience leading Kaizens.
- Strong track record of engineering aptitude, ability to apply advanced maintenance and engineering principles, and problem solving.
- Experience with creating and supporting process automation systems, process monitoring systems, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) creation and maintenance.
- Experience with AutoCAD 3D
- Experience with CNC Machining
- Experience with equipment installation and facilities modifications, including management of capital and expense projects.
- Demonstrated strong project management skills and success working on cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated work record of meeting goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated use and understanding of a change management process.
- Siemens PLC programming
