Title: Electro-Optic Design Engineer / PI

We are seeking an electro-optic instrument engineer who is creative, analytical, and is capable of providing sound technical leadership to electrical, optical and systems design tasks. In this role you will perform work on multiple development projects covering the range of the company’s technology and product areas. You will take a lead role in developing proposals, technologies, products, and business for electro-optic sensor and imaging systems. This position will work on projects end-to-end – from proposal and design, through prototype development and analysis, to product development and manufacturing. You will be an important part of a small, multi-disciplined, highly energetic, and technically ambitious team.

The ideal candidate is a multi-disciplinary systems engineer who can apply creative design principals in a broad range of technologies; optical instrument design, spectroscopy systems, laser ranging systems, motion systems, optical sensors, along with their associated control algorithms and data analysis. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and track record of writing winning technical proposals and reports.

Additionally, the candidate should have experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Working knowledge of spectrometers, hyperspectral imaging, cameras, IR imaging, optics, electronic test equipment, lasers, optical bench set-up
• Creating models for optical instrument systems using one or more of: Zemax, MatLab, MathCAD, Excel, Thermal imaging modeling in NVTherm IP
• Create mechanical design models using AutoCAD or SolidWorks
• Image analysis and coding using IDL and/or ENVI
• Support in various projects performing models, researching vendors, ordering equipment
• Lead role in proposal and report writing
• Embedded programming for microcontrollers

Requirements:

• Electro-optics, optics, physics or electrical design experience.
• Minimum of Bachelors degree in EE, Physics, or related discipline.
• Must have hands-on experience designing, building and debugging electronics or optical systems.
• Must have excellent writing skills
• Must be highly motivated and enjoy working in a small, fast paced environment
