ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

SUMMARY: Currently searching for three Part-Time Student Assistants to support the Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) program, under the supervision of Dr. Lily Gossage, Director, MEP-WiSE

ABOUT US : As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Foundation offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Foundation offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.

The Foundation also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Foundation and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Norman J. Priest Scholarship. In addition, the Foundation administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Foundation contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

The part-time student assistant will support the WiSE outreach/recruitment and retention efforts, including the Femineer program. This is an on-campus position. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• General office (including clerical, receptionist, telephone calls, e-mail, typing, filing, delivery, etc.)
• Supporting maintenance of spaces (i.e., student tutoring rooms, offices)
• Event planning, organizing/hosting events and workshops (e.g., WiSE Wednesday’s)
• Creation of promotional materials (e.g., info cards, digital posters)
• Developing ideas for program implementation and improvement
• Training other student assistants and peers
• Representing the WiSE and Femineer programs at functions and events
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Must be a Cal Poly Student pursuing a bachelor’s degree (preferably in a STEM major)
• Excellent English verbal communication and writing skills
• Responsible and dependable
• Ability to work well with various people including students, faculty, staff, and high-level administrators
• Motivated, innovative, and takes initiative
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Canvas, MS Teams

PREFERRED

• STEM major (majors included in the College of Engineering or College of Science)
