Job description

The CNC Programmer position is responsible for process improvements at the CNC machine as well as programming new product offerings. This position also helps train operators to load parts in the machine and machine parts safely. This includes helping operators troubleshoot issues, such as worn or damaged cutting tools, and helps operators to recover from these issues. The position ensures production runs efficiently, communicates with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintains a safe, organized, and clean work environment.

1. Completes CNC change-overs on existing product lines as well as new ones
2. Edits programs as needed to keep parts in tolerance and machines running
3. Carries out preventative maintenance items on CNC machines to keep machines up and running
4. Troubleshoots CNC and other manufacturing and machine problems
5. Is responsible for clearing any machine errors that may come up during operation
6. Sets or adjusts work and tool offsets so machines are making parts in tolerance
7. Checks parts to make sure they are in tolerance 
8. Works with Manufacturing Engineers and shop floor personnel to come up with jigs and fixtures that improve workflow and quality
9. Uses CAD software to design CNC work holding, manual jigs and fixtures
10. Uses CAM software to program a variety of things for Onsrud CNCs and the Haas CNC (CNC work holding, jigs)

Required Education and Experience

1. High School Diploma or equivalent with 5 or more years of operating CNC equipment in a production environment
2. Or Associates Degree in technical field and 3 or more years of operating CNC equipment in a production environment

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Experience and/or training in safe work environments, union work environments, capital improvement, and maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
2. Computer assisted design (CAD) proficiency.
3. Experience with Fanuc Robotics G-Code programming.
