Primary Function of Organizational Unit


The Student Health Service of East Carolina University is a separate and distinct department within the Division of Student Affairs and is charged with the responsibility of providing primary health care for its student body. The primary care encompasses delivery of acute medical care; preventive medical care, health education; mental health care; laboratory and pharmaceutical services; administrative support services; and advisory and educational assistance to other university departments, (i.e., Athletics, Campus Recreation & Wellness, etc.) Student Health Service is mandated by the University of the State of North Carolina to delivery "state of the art" medical care, economically, to all fee-paying students through a pre-determined budget. The diverse medical needs of the ECU Student Body require that the SHS be a multifunctional and constantly changing department.

Job Duties


Duties performed include:

Minimum Education/Experience


Must provide evidence of license and DEA number to the Credentialing Committee upon each renewal and renew clinical privileges every two years.

Must remain eligible for malpractice insurance during the duration of their employment

Must also maintain CME requirements as set forth by the NC BME.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation


The position requires a board certified or board eligible license to practice medicine by the State of North Carolina and an operable DEA number

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

License or Certification Required by the Department
