BLANK AST 3 (Financial Aid Assistant) Department Description
Department Purpose Federal, state and University audits focus directly on the work performed by this position as it could affect the University's ability to administer aid and participate in Title IV programs.
Job Summary Under general supervision, provide information to students, parents, and the general public regarding financial aid, which involves analyzing the applicant's level of need and eligibility to allocate financial aid awards and advise students on obtaining aid. Analyze financial aid regulations, student data, and assist with implementing procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and timely delivery of aid. Monitor and update records, review information and materials to ensure students receive aid for which they are eligible, and verify procedures, document expenses, loan regulations and procedures, refund/repayment procedures and execute specialized programs such as Cal Grant, Loans, Summer Session, NCAA, Education Abroad, that may require commitments throughout the year. Apply extensive knowledge of federal tax laws and requirements as tax returns are often very complex.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Minimum Education/Experience - Experience in financial aid principles, practices, and processes; knowledge of Federal and State policies and procedures.
- Experience with financial aid packaging policies and practices.
- Experience with personal computers using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, financial and student information systems.
- Experience working independently with general supervision.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) - Knowledge of fundamental school and academic program principles and standards (admissions, registration, financial aid, gift acceptance) to provide general information and make the referrals.
- Knowledge of Federal tax laws and regulations.
- Skill in calculation of awards tied to complex, non-standard aid periods; manual recalculation of award base to ensure award amount and skills to solve intermediate to complex program, system, or procedural problems; exercise originality to develop methods or procedures to resolve recurring or unusual problems.
Preferred: Preferred Education/Experience - Experience with UC financial and student information systems (e.g., DAFIS, Banner, etc.).
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) - Knowledge of University policies and procedures.
- Skills to troubleshoot and analyze procedures and policies for interface with program developers and to train other.
- Interpersonal communication skills to interact with individuals of varying ages and cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
- Skills to coordinate with student accounting, graduate studies, and graduate departments.
