Job Title: Mental Health Counselor

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Salary Grade: $21.50 - $23.00/hr
Primary Shift (On Call, Y/N): Day/Evening Shift Options Available
Travel Required (Y/N,%): Y, 30% (local)
JOB SUMMARY
The Mental Health Counselor provides individual and group counseling for residents who are currently living at the LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home, as well as clients in the aftercare program as requested or appropriate. This role may provide a therapeutic perspective for staff.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan and provide individual mental health counseling and intervention for adults and young children.
- Facilitate group therapy and psychoeducational groups.
- Maintain necessary paperwork and clients' notes, including treatment plans/updates, progress notes, release of information forms, assessments, etc.
- Communicate with area mental health providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Provide staff training, when requested.
- Attend training and development programs to increase professional growth and maintain licensure.
- Provide couples counseling as necessary and appropriate.
- Attend community networking meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of child abuse and neglect and appropriate facilitation of reporting.
- Excellent speaking, listening, and communication skills.
- Basic clerical skills and computer knowledge.
- Strong understanding of Trauma Informed Care; including boundaries, de-escalation, conflict resolution, cultural competence, and/or the commitment to become educated.
- Knowledge of theories, including motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, etc.
- Ability to exercise discretion to protect the confidentiality of residents and clients.
- Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work and maintain a positive work attitude.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
- Masters in Social Work, Counseling, or psychology.
- Licensure or Provisional Licensure with active supervision
- This position requires a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance.
PREFERRED:
* Experience working with individuals with homelessness, substance use disorders, anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorders, and personality disorders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
