Position Summary The Clinical Assistant/Clinical Associate Professor is a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure track, academic position in the School of Nursing, which is part of the College of Health and Human Services at Indiana University Northwest. The position is a non-tenure track faculty position that is focused on teaching undergraduate/graduate didactic and clinical nursing courses with a focus on nursing care delivery for diverse populations (with a focus on pediatric groups). Key working relationships include those with other faculty members, as well as with adjunct faculty/preceptors who administer clinical education at the clinical affiliates. The position includes service responsibilities, which may involve participation at the department, division, campus and/or community level. The position is a 10-month position reporting to the Director of the School of Nursing.
The Associate Director of the Nursing Simulation and Learning Resource Center is a nurse educator who is responsible to collaborate with other School of Nursing administrators, staff, faculty, and students to oversee and manage the Simulation Learning Center (SLC) within the BSN and MSN nursing programs. The Associate Director is responsible for the overall integrity and accountability of the SLC nursing curriculum for the undergraduate and graduate programs, including all tracks and options. The position is a 10-month per year position and carries a 25% to 50% reduction in teaching load depending on the needs and resources of the School of Nursing.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities for the position will include teaching undergraduate/graduate didactic and clinical nursing courses; assisting with curricular development, implementation, assessment, and evaluation; mentoring to students; community service/shared governance activities.Responsibilities associated with the SLC include:
- Develops, implements, updates, and monitors simulation lab policies, procedures, use, and orientation.
- Develops, presents, evaluates, and refines scenarios for simulation experiences utilizing role-playing props and dialogue to create a realistic learning environment.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates clinical simulation to meet accreditation standards.
- Collects data on learning outcomes for simulation exercises and performs data analysis to evaluate learning and satisfaction with the provision of services.
- Continuously updates and refines simulation experiences based on identified needs and to serve as a resource for faculty using simulation in classroom lab activities.
- Maintains the lab inventory and ensures the safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Monitors and assures appropriate standards of lab cleanliness and provides for equipment repair, maintenance, and replacement.
- Orients instructors and lab procedures, location, and use of materials and operation of equipment.
- Oversees simulation technology support.
- Formulates budget recommendations regarding physical and human resources required for effective operations.
- Works closely with program staff and faculty to appropriately integrate lab operations, obtains maximum utilization for the most efficient expenditures and moderates student cost.
- Serves as the primary scheduling officer for faculty and student use.
- Analyzes current SLC status, identifies needs, and develops improvement plans.
- Prepares reports on SLC activities, standards, accreditation requirements, educational concerns, and participant successes.
- Collaborates with faculty on simulation education, training, and best practices.
- Ensures orientation to SLC for students and faculty each semester.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Rank dependent upon educational preparation and experience.
- Current clinical practice experience.
- Knowledge of Laerdal and other AV simulation systems.
- Programming knowledge of medical high-fidelity simulators and systems (e.g., Laerdal, Gaumard, Python, HTML, and WordPress).
- General knowledge of servers, databases, and web applications.

Basic Qualifications Required Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in nursing.
- Licensed in the state of Indiana or eligible for endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- DNP/Ph.D.
- Certified Healthcare Simulation Education (CHSE) or equivalent.
- Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
- Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Pediatric nursing experience or knowledge base.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
