Battery FEA Engineer

Apple Inc.

Location

Cupertino, CA | United States

Job description

Do you have a passion for invention and self-challenge? Do you thrive with pushing the limits of what’s considered feasible? As part of our Battery Engineering group, you’ll help craft creative battery solutions that deliver more energy in smaller spaces than ever before! You’ll work across fields to transform improved hardware elements into a single, integrated design. Join us, and innovate new battery technologies that continually outperform the previous iterations. By collaborating with other product development groups across Apple, you’ll push the industry boundaries of what batteries can do and improve the product experience for our customers across the world. The Battery Product Development team at Apple produces high energy and highly reliable embedded battery systems for all product teams Tightly integrated with Product Development, Operations, Industrial Design and Reliability Testing groups, the Battery Product Development team owns battery module development from initial system architecture through ramp.

Key Qualifications

Description

As a member of the Battery Product Design Structural Analysis team, you will be for FEA modeling and material characterization for all products. You will be fully integrated with the Product Design team from the earliest stages, analyzing and advising the mechanical design of ground breaking products. You will also work with multi-functional teams within Apple and with outside vendors to characterize the strength of raw materials and components. - Generate finite element models/analytical models of mechanical parts, modules, and assemblies - Perform static, multifaceted explicit, structural, and thermal-mechanical analysis - Develop of state of art finite element (FE) models of cell, pack, and BMS sub-systems in detail - Characterization of battery related materials and development of sophisticated material models for CAE simulations - Perform sophisticated CAE simulations to evaluate and improve understanding the behavior of the cell, pack, and BMS sub-systems around battery pack and in-products under both static and dynamic events - Supporting design progression and evolution with multi-disciplinary engineering teams based on your analyses - Work with design teams and multi-functional teams, to understand CAE analysis requirements and clearly identify the related goals, scope and functionality limitations. - Use outstanding tools and solvers to generate the vital simulation models and results. - Work with test and reliability labs, to develop physical test methods, to gain vital data for results validation. - Work with system teams, to collaborate on developing detailed sub-models to be used in assembly level simulations. - Develop optimized workflows and/or reusable templates for regularly required FEA simulations. - Develop and implement best practices. - Work with CAE vendors to drive the functionality improvements to better serve the CAE needs of the group. - Explore new analysis types and solutions, including topological optimization Skillset: Abaqus Solver (must), NX, Abacus CAE, Hypermesh, Machine learning, Python
