The Cedar Rapids Gazette, founded in 1883, is the second largest newspaper in the state. This employee-owned media organization also operates a news site and hosts Iowa Ideas, an annual conference that examines issues facing the state, bringing people together to discuss challenges and possible solutions to make the community and region stronger. The Gazette has earned the Iowa Newspaper Association award for innovation four consecutive years. Open Position Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa Position: Cedar Rapids — Iowa’s second-largest city — is no stranger to natural disasters. In 2008, a flood put the city underwater. In 2020, a derecho stripped three-fourths of the city’s tree canopy. This reporter will cover environmental issues like water quality, biodiversity loss and climate change. They will keep tabs on energy in a state that leads in wind generation. And they will be a watchdog for Iowa’s agricultural empire, dominated by corn, soy, hogs and eggs. Salary and Benefits:
$42,000-$48,000
