Responsibilities

The Regional Director Heatlh Information Management (HIM) Operations as a key promoter of HIM shared services and is responsible for setting the tone as a service organization, continuously seeking to understand, meet and exceed customer expectations and needs. This leader is responsible for assisting in the development and evolution of the overall strategy for health information management operations, and specifically leading the Release of Information (ROI) function across the 11 hospital system. 

This individual is responsible for oversight of all HIM operational processes in the inpatient, hospital outpatient department, and ambulatory setting of designated locations, the employees and workflow, including but not limited to, document capture, chart completion, filing and retrieval, record management and retention, release of information, and birth certificates and reporting. Responsible for directly managing HIM operations for the hospital HIM departments and various WellStar Medical Group practices in their designated region. Additionally, the Regional Director will be responsible for a minimum of one of the centralized HIM shared services operations across the organization.

The Director serves as a process owner, designing best practice workflows and technology, measures of success, planning and advocacy of assigned functions. He/She ensures the timeliness, accuracy, and integrity of health information to support patient care, revenue cycle and organizational goals.

The Director interprets policies and procedures, recommends changes as appropriate, and provides relevant feedback. Assists supervisor with the oversight and implementation of HIM shared services operational planning, service level agreements, budgets, workflow processes and internal controls. He/she contributes to the development of strategic direction of HIM at WellStar.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Administration. Master’s Degree preferred.

Required Minimum Certification/Licensure: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) in good standing with the American Health Information Management Association

Required Minimum Experience: Ten (10) years managing health information operations in a large inpatient facility with an increasing scope of responsibility and experience implementing an electronic health record.

Required Minimum Skills: Knowledge in and the ability to apply the principles of HIM, project management, and change management. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. Must have the ability to prioritize appropriately. Must be detail orientated and have the ability to multitask. A wide degree of creativity, critical thinking and latitude is required. Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills, including effectively interacting with physicians, patients, staff, vendors and leaders. Must possess the ability to function independently, yet productively as a cooperative team member with various work teams associated with the position.
